Board of Directors
The volunteer Board
of Directors of the disAbility Resource Center are elected at the Annual
Meeting in September and serve for a term of one year; however there is no
limitation on consecutive terms, if elected, as outlined in the
organizational By-Laws. More than
51% of our Board members must be people with disabilities. We seek
members who have a desire to support our mission, who have special administrative
skills to advise in management functions, or community connections to help
us identify resources which enable us to grow. We also seek members
who are representative of the diversity of backgrounds and disability experiences
that we must share in order to be successful in helping the people we serve.
The Board of Directors
generally meets bi-monthly, but may call special meetings if necessary
to accomplish pressing business. Boards of non-profit organizations
have very specific legal and societal roles, but broadly defined, the board
of directors provides policy and oversight to the organization.
In addition to
regular meetings of the full board, the dRC has several committees comprised
of board members and volunteers to address special functions.
The Executive Committee
consists of the President, the Treasurer, and the immediate Past President,
and deals primarily with contractual and legal obligations of the organization.
It is staffed by the Executive Director.
The Finance Committee
consists of the Treasurer, and at least two other members. It is
staffed by the Executive Director. The Finance Committee makes financial
policy and provides oversight to financial management and procedures.
It reviews the financial statements monthly, measures spending against
budgets, reviews and recommends budgets and budget changes for adoption
by the Board, and handles any related business that may come before the
organization.
The Program Committee
consists of at least two members and any number of volunteers. The
program committee recommends program policy, oversees program development,
progress against grant program requirements and reporting.
Ad hoc committees
are formed as needed for occasional functions, fundraising activities or
awareness activities.
The day-to-day
operations of the dRC are managed by the Executive Director and other paid
staff. |
